Daily Commute 25 by deadlymike Daily Commute 25 by deadlymike
Some water color ish. The colors are bit brighter though. I dug up a whole bunch of art supplies from the college days and I found these wierd Dr PH Martin water color drops. Decided to experiment with them for this one! Enjoy!

ha ha yeah I can't either. I color them after. Sometimes I wish they had some magical water color pen that I could use. If you find one let me know.

the first word that comes to my mind are "copics"... lol they pretty much are like watercolors in marker form!!!... you'll have have to pay an arm and leg and 200 dollars T__T
But yeah, im really yerning to start using colors and really putting life into my figures.. im so used to just drawing them and then going "meh" haha

Just keep drawing. Right now I've been cooked up in the house so I draw my parents watching the tube. Anything is good. Copics are awesome by the way.

How embarrassing... I had never thought to make highlights in watercolor pictures by leaving negative space. And if it had occurred to me before, I'm not sure how I forgot. It works so well.

Yeah it really does. I love how the water forms these hard aged spaces.

In contrast, when doing the soft cloudy background textures, do you just sort of soak the surface or how do you go about it?

Well I kinda just soak the surface. It's not really intentional. Most of the time some of the brush strokes you see in the background is me trying out a wash before I apply it on the people.

um....do u draw people out-and-about or are they your own design?
Love the style of this. Great variations of color and line.

Thank you. Yeah all these people are out and about. Basically on the train on my way to the day job.

sorry for the late reply.

lets hope none of these ppl own a DA account and see themselves...lol.

I had a guy draw me once. i knew him from school, but it was strange (maybe cuz he also liked me). I almost got mad and asked him why he kept lookin at me.

Great stuff. hope to see more

How long does it take to do one of these? They look like they take a while but people don't stay still for that long!

Yeah I try to catch the sleepers but a lot of it is just fast sketching and memory. You get better at it the more you do it. The trick is to draw the important parts. I try not to spend time on detail...more the impression.

So do you do the water color after the fact, or during the ride?

:icondeadlymike:

After the ride. It would take too long to apply the washes. I wish I could do it during.

I really enjoy this kind of working from life... I always feel like I'm staring at people and creeping them out whenever I try something like this. Maybe I should wear sunglasses! Great work!

Yeah sunglasses work but that might come out creepy also lol! Trick is to not think so much about that or practice the art of looking by not looking. Lol I sound like the ghost of Bruce Lee and Bob Ross combined.
